Dominique Boullier is senior researcher at Digital Humanities Institute at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
Between 1996 and 2005, he was professor in Sciences of Information and Communication at the Université de Compiègne (France) and headed the multidisciplinary team in social sciences of Costech from 1998 to 2005. In 2002, he created and headed untill 2007 the LUTIN Laboraty (Laboratoire des Usages en Technologies d’Information Numérique) at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris. In 2008, he founded the medialab with Bruno Latour at Sciences Po.
Dominique Boullier wrote his thesis on housing and generation issues ; and he published several articles mixing those issues: “L’urbanité numérique” (1999), “la ville événement” (2010) or “Les sciences sociales face aux traces du Big Data. Société, opinion ou vibrations ?” (2015). He recently published “Sociologie du numérique” (2016), Armand Colin (collection U). He is the editor in chief of the Cosmopolitiques magazine which recently published several issues on urban planning. Dominique Boullier has also been awarded with a PhD in Sociology at the Université de Bordeaux and with a degree in Sciences of language at the Université de Rennes.
